Research Studio iSPACE takes care of the increasing non-availability of living space and researches the basics to increase the energy-efficient, resource-saving and socially acceptable living space potential
Increasing settlement pressure and the limited availability of land raise the question of energy-efficient housing in many cities. Projects and models for redensification from the research studio iSPACE Smart Settlement Systems already provide initial answers to these questions and will in future provide even more methods for interior development.
With BONSEI! (Optimal Use of Existing Buildings – Implementing Renovation Energy Efficiently) iSPACE created a solution to promote energy efficient and socially acceptable redensification in urban residential buildings in private ownership and at the same time to create a methodological basis for more resource efficient urban regions.
Their new project BONUS (Use existing stock – strengthen the environment) has the further objective of mobilising existing potential for the interior development of housing with a focus on 1-2 family houses by developing a transferable holistic consulting service and a transferable operator model.
The project was launched in April 2020 and the first BONUS consultations will be carried out in the pilot areas of Feldkirch and Salzburg with the aim of generating added value for municipalities as quickly as possible.
As a city project of the Smart Cities Initiative of the Climate and Energy Fund, the BONUS project will be evaluated on the basis of specially developed impact indicators with regard to specifically defined goals, such as successfully addressing citizens, transferring the research results into practice and generating municipal added value through new planning bases or the reduction of land and CO2 consumption.
The aim of the project is to develop a transferable holistic consulting service. This forms the basis for raising the energy-efficient, resource-conserving and socially acceptable living space potential, as well as the possibility of holistically considering and integrating mobility, open space and greenery. A test on the real environment serves to design the operator model.
