The persistently high land consumption in Austria remains an important, emotionalising topic in public discussion and in the media: Whether at the RSA-FG’s own event in cooperation with the Chamber of Civil Engineers Upper Austria/Salzburg “Österreich verschwindet” or at the recent soil protection summit of the federal government, the provinces and the municipalities. Organisations such as WWF Austria criticise the lack of effective measures and the lack of will to make decisions.
One solution to keep the consumption of green spaces within limits is redensification. In an article published on 16 October 2021, the press reported how digital tools can help. Thomas Prinz from the iSPACE research studio, Managing Director of RSA FG, states in the article: “A city like Salzburg has only limited possibilities to develop outwards. That’s why it’s all the more important to use the potential in the existing buildings.”
