Univ. Prof. Dr. Alois Ferscha
Scientific Studio Director
Professor Alois Ferscha is founder and scientific director of the Research Studio for Pervasive Computing Applications. He has also been a full professor of computer science at Johannes Kepler University Linz since 2000, where he also heads the Institute for Pervasive Computing and served as dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (2015-2017). Previously, he worked at the Institute of Applied Computer Science at the University of Vienna as assistant and associate professor (1986-1999).
Currently, his research focuses on pervasive and ubiquitous computing, embedded AI, cognitive systems, and high-performance simulation. He successfully completed national (WirelessCampus, MobiLearn, PowerIT and many more) and international (EU FP7, BeyondTheHorizon, InterLink and many more) projects and works closely with industrial stakeholders (e.g. voestalpine, Red Bull Media House, SIEMENS, IBM).
Alois Ferscha is (co-)author of more than 300 technical papers on topics related to pervasive, ubiquitous, mobile, wearable and distributed computing. He has served on editorial boards of prestigious international scientific journals and conference, symposium, and program chairs.
He is an active advisor to the FET group within the European Commission and to several Austrian Federal Ministries.
Alois Ferscha is a member of the OCG, GI, ACM, and IEEE. He also holds the Heinz Zemanek Award for Outstanding Contributions in Computer Science, the Cross Border Award 2009, the Innovation Award 2009, the Multimedia State Award 2011, and the Ö-WGP Future Award 2018.
