Successful progress of the BONUS project – Salzburg-wide roll-out planned
The BONUS project is developing an innovative redensification consulting service that focuses on the potentials and mobilization of existing housing stock. In this way, additional living space shall be created in cities without designating new areas. In addition to the use of an innovative database, criteria such as the preservation of green space and sustainable mobility play an important role in ensuring quality of life.
The project is coordinated by RSA FG iSPACE (Lead) and carried out together with the project partners The City of Salzburg, Energieinstitut Vorarlberg, Rosinak & Partner, pulswerk and Architekt Schweizer. The goal is the development of a transferable redensification consulting service including the components of open and green space as well as sustainable mobility.
The project BONUS is funded by the program “Smart Cities Demo – Living Urban Innovation 2019” of the Climate and Energy Fund.
The first test consultations took place in the Salzburg district of Maxglan and later in Liefering. This test run was so successful that the city of Salzburg is now striving to expand the BONUS consulting service to the entire city of Salzburg. Studio iSPACE supports the city of Salzburg with the preparation of the data basis for the consultations and the further development of the BONUS services.
“Research Studio iSPACE developed new data-based concepts to provide important basic information for climate-friendly housing creation,” said Florian Schöpflin and Thomas Prinz of RSA FG iSPACE.
In addition to Salzburg, redensification consulting is currently also being tested in Feldkirch (Vorarlberg). Here, too, there is already interest in the consultations in the pilot area of Tisis. In close coordination with the partners from Vorarlberg, the consultation is being continuously developed and optimized based on feedback from the consultants. Towards the end of the project, other municipalities and cities will be informed about the consultation and will also offer the transferable consultation service to their residents.
Great Potential for the Creation of Additional Living Space in Existing Housing Stock
The city of Salzburg sees BONUS – redensification consultion as an opportunity to counteract the enormously increasing demand for living space by converting or expanding detached and semidetached houses. Without making changes to the development plans, up to 18,000 additional residential units could be created in this way.
“For all owners who want to find out about the options for the sustainable development of their property, the BONUS project is an optimal consulting tool that offers individual solutions in the sense of affordable and ecological housing creation,” says Deputy Mayor Dr. Barbara Unterkofler, LL.M.
