New Research Hotspot “Smart Digital Industries & Services“ Opened in St.Pölten

St. Pölten: Research Studio Austria Forschungsgesellschaft (RSA FG) celebrated the opening of its new research studio Smart Digital Industries & Services (SDIS)[1] in St. Pölten on September 27th. In addition to Governor Mikl-Leitner, the opening was attended by representatives from the state and city of St. Pölten, economy representatives, and numerous international guests from industry and research. The branch is funded by the state of Lower Austria and focuses on research in intelligent digital services and production systems. The opening of the branch took place in the context of a high-profile dual EU project meeting where the international research projects AIMS 5.0[2] and Arrowhead Flexible Production Value Network (Arrowhead fPVN)[3] were presented. These research projects are pioneering in the topics of Artificial Intelligence and Industry 5.0.

RSA FG as a Launch Pad

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner emphasized: “With the opening of the Research Studio Austria in St. Pölten, we have gotten another hotspot in the diverse research landscape of Lower Austria. The Research Studio SDIS in St. Pölten is a launching pad for science to gain even more social and economic significance because it is not only about research but also about the implementation into practice, up to marketable products and services. In this way, the Research Studio makes a significant contribution to mastering current and future challenges. For that we need courage and optimism, but above all research and a spirit of innovation is necessary, and that’s what this location exudes here.”

International Partners

Markus Tauber, chief scientific officer of RSA FG, is pleased that several international research projects have already been brought to Lower Austria since the start of work this spring. “The federal state offers an excellent environment and partner networks for research and development,” says Tauber. He appreciates the versatile team of experts who deal with the issues surrounding AI in industry from different perspectives.

Industrie 5.0 meets Smart Farming

The projects AIMS5.0, AgrarSense and EdeN deal with the topics of Industry 5.0 and the use of artificial intelligence in industrial food production, among others. The director of the new studio Stefan Gindl mentions the area of “Smart Farming”: “We take a very application-oriented approach and work closely with our project partners. In their plants, we can try out our research prototypes and adapt them to the needs in a productive environment.”

Knowledge and Technology Transfer

Research Studios Austria Forschungsgesellschaft (RSA FG) is an Austrian research company that has been operating for 20 years with a focus on new information and communication technologies. It has its headquarters in Salzburg and additional research facilities (“studios”) in Vienna, Linz and, most recently, St. Pölten. Each studio has a different research focus. Knowledge and technology transfer from universities to markets, digital intelligence and future technologies are the focus of all studios. RSA FG currently employs more than 50 researchers. Owner representative Christian Helmenstein emphasizes the synergies with business and industry and appreciates the transfer of research results into broad application and exploitation: “The new research studio Smart Digital Industries & Services fits seamlessly into the recently presented lighthouse initiative “Digital Economy” of the Lower Austrian government.”
