The working group for digitalization met on 18 September. Stakeholders from industry, politics and research discussed the European Union’s planned legislative changes. The focus was on current research topics and, in particular, the Artificial Intelligence Act and the Data Act, with whose planning the EU intends to play a pioneering role.
The host was the comp Dr. Bohrer Lasertec GmbH. The meeting began with a tour of the company building, where the stakeholders were given an impressive insight into the world of laser technology. After a welcome address by Managing Director Markus Bohrer, Valerie Gruber, European Policy Officer at the Federation of Austrian Industries in Brussels, presented the European Commission’s plans in the area of digital transformation. The acts presented and adopted relate to cyber security, infrastructure expansion, artificial intelligence, data security and semiconductor production. With the Artificial Intelligence Act and the Data Act, the EU wants to take on a pioneering role in order to provide a legal framework for the rapidly advancing development of this technology.
In connection with EU tenders, our Managing Director Markus Tauber followed up with his presentation on “Key Digital Technologies: International Research and Quo Vadis”. It covered topics from the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of the European Electronic Components and Systems (ECS) industry associations Aeneas, Eposs und Inside. He sees specific challenges for the future in the areas of systems of systems, edge AI and digital industry. Tauber explained these using specific project examples from the RSA FG in the area of the use of artificial intelligence in industrial production, which are being researched in the AIMS5.0 project, among others.
