Research Studio iSPACE provides a four-dimensional view of the underwater world of power plants
Research Studio iSPACE – 4D Environments cooperates with Ocean Maps, a company founded in Salzburg in 2015, to expand its portfolio from 3D to 4D underwater maps. 4D geodata add the fourth dimension of time to our familiar three-dimensional space (length-width-height), i.e. the change of objects, such as the expansion of bodies.
Ocean Maps GmbH has just commissioned a new one-year project from the research studio iSPACE, which involves digital images of hydroelectric power plants with a focus on the underwater area (so-called bathymetry). The project is entitled “DWKW 4D”, i.e. Digital Hydro Power Plants in 4D.
The Research Studio iSPACE – 4D Environments is one of the leading researchers and developers for 4D geoinformation systems. The company Ocean Maps has developed an app with the world’s first interactive 3D dive site maps. These maps are based on high-resolution sonar, satellite and video data. A previous project with the research studios iSPACE and Ocean Maps (Ocean Maps 3D underwater maps) aimed at automating the production of underwater maps and the inclusion of additional geodata. It was completed in 2018.
iSPACE researchers Dr. Manfred Mittlböck (Principal Scientist), Dr. Bernhard Vockner MSc (Senior Researcher), Mag. Michael Andorfer MSc (Researcher) and Laura Knoth MSc (Researcher) are involved in the contract research. “Studio iSPACE – 4D Environments is pleased to be able to carry out its second project with the innovative Company Ocean Maps,” says studio manager Manfred Mittlböck.
The company Ocean Maps is concerned with the preservation of economically usable digital images of power plants with a focus on the business customer segment of energy supply companies. With this project, Studio iSPACE is making a decisive contribution to proactive business expansion and customer acquisition.
